That's why I suggested a normal regulated 13.8v power supply like an Astron.
Besides it being quiet for radio noise, the voltage mimics what it is in a
car.  Even if a car is running for 24 hours straight (think police cars) the
battery is never overcharged.

With the battery outside, leave those wires connected permanently and
connect the inside end as needed.
