*** If that occurs, consider AM dead as a doornail. AM audience is
dwindling daily as those of us old enough to know what it is and listen
to it die. AM has no relevance to most people under 40. I cannot
believe any significant number of people would purchase AM HD radios.
For FM, it is useful to remember that this isn't like TV where some of
the space is being sold off to other services - services which people
use and want. Based on many things I've read, most people under 40
would also sacrifice their FM radios for other media if that occurred.
Either is a golden gift to satellite radio, streaming audio, iPods and
the like. I really believe such a mandate has the potential to kill off
both AM and FM terrestrial radio - the one will die much fster than the
other...
