[IRCA] BMI & Music Licensing

I run talk programming here on WABV-AM 1590, but evenso I apparently
hafta pay $170 a year or so for a music license because the talk
network I run plays 10 to 20 second clips of actual songs going into
and outta breaks.

I know that's hardly alot of money and before anyone complains I got
off lucky, I'm just not happy I hafta pay it at al.

So, I told my BMI Rep " "You know the last part of your letter that
says Thanks for your support of BMI's songwriters, composers and music
publishers? Well, just because Im paying you people doesnt mean I
agree, like or support BMI or anyone associated with BMI"

And spent 3 or 4 minutes giving her a piece of my mind on what I think
of them, and how wretched/wrong their set-up is. basically, I told her
it's un fair and I shouldn't have to pay anything................ I
also made it VERY clear to her, "You know Debbie, if it weren't for us
radio stations playing artists music, alot of these
singers/artists/groups wouldn't be nearly as popular today as they
are. obviously we can't be paid to play their music as it'd be
payola, but we certainly need to come up with a better system"
