I have found a source for 8-inch long, 3/8-inch diameter ferrite
loop cores. $15.00 for 8 rods.

These are Russian in manufacture.
I haven't attempted to measure the permeability, but I find them
to be satisfactory.
I have assembled a two-foot long loop antenna using these and
some litz wire. It is far from being complete, but using a 19-dB
bipolar transistor amplifier with it, I have achieved a
sensitivity exceeding that of the Space Magnet SM-2, without the
noise of the SM-2.
Last Saturday, I tuned WSM-650 at local noon on the above loop.
WSM was sufficiently weak that I could barely discern audio on
the SM-2. On the above loop, the audio was noticeably better.
