Paul,

That's the point. As long as the station isn't on Federal property, they
can say the are licensed to that facility....I guess.

So if WSME says it's Camp LeJeune, the commanding general can't say
doodlebug about it....just as long as none of the station is aboard
the base.

By the same token, if Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune wants to set up a
small AFRTS station of, say 50 - 100 watts, the FCC has no say. The
USMC would have to go through NTIA to coordinate a frequency with the
FCC.

There was, for a while, a small Army Information Radio station at
Fort Bragg on 640 with 50 watts. Why it was shut down, I don't know.
I'll bet the commercial stations in Fayetteville fussed to one of
NC's senators and political considerations came into play.

In fact, AIR-640 shut down not too long before WFNC moved from 940 to
640, and I'll bet the base commander decided it was too much fuss.

by the same token, the FCC has no jurisdiction over VOA.
