Using slow code is a great idea. But I have a related question: has there
ever been a proposal to "tag" every broadcast station's carrier with unique
ID data, some modulation that would allow a suitably equipped receiver to ID
the carrier (station)? With the displays now on consumer radios, this
encoding would allow instant display of the station when tuned. This would
make super-dx really interesting, with instant ID of what you can't even
hear down in the mud. For example, IDing KSL in the east would require only
a simple glance at the encoding being received on 1160, plus the other
carriers would reveal their identites as well. Imagine the new world of
graveyard dx, watching the IDs of 37 stations on 1240 popping in/out on the
display! Not as thrilling as a TOH fade-up ID, granted! Has anyone ever
proposed/done such a thing?
