FCC To Release Final HD Radio Rules Next Week

The FCC announced late Thursday (Mar. 15) that is will issue final 
regulations for HD Radio at its next open meeting, which is scheduled for 
March 22.

Along with two final orders, including one order on reconsideration, the 
commission is also going to issue a second notice of proposed rulemaking, 
suggesting questions may still remain about certain aspects of the in-band, 
on-channel digital service.

Broadcasters have been anxiously awaiting final HD Radio rules, as all HD 
Radio stations are currently operating under temporary experimental 
authorizations.

With any luck, the commission will come to its senses on AM IBOC, but I 
doubt it.
