You are right, the Pacific Propagation is no longer there. Even the
Hawaiians do not have the signal they once had. Night after night in the
70s and to the mid 80s, I would hear at least 50% and sometimes 100% of
the Hawaiians. Stations like KMVI 550 (then 1 KW) would bomb in to be
heard on shirit pocket transistor radios, even with KOAC Corvallis OR on
the air. They just don't have the signal any longer. I still hear
Hawaiians most nights, but only a few. The most common and easiest to
hear now to KPUA 670, followed by KMVI-550, and it is downhill from
there. The only thing blocking me is 2500 miles of ocean, as it was 28
years ago. From 1981 until now, I have the same EWE (new wire), but the
same antenna. But the signals are not there. Night after night in the
early 80s, I would hear dozens of DUs. Sometimes 2 and 3 on a frequency.
My old reel to reel tapes don't lie. Amazing DX back then from the
Pacific, Will it return? Who knows? Hopefully it will.  My noise level
here is about the same too, very low, and still the same three 1 KW
locals in the county.
