The only trouble the news department has had with their Edirol is the 1/8"
input jack is fragile. They accidently put some sideways strain in a plug
and it broke off one of the internal contact leafs.  Other than that, they
have used it for news interviews and music recording at clubs and whatnot
for later play on-air.  It's been a workhorse.

Been pondering it myself to add to the DX equipment in the truck..
