A few weeks ago I bought a Palstar R30CC receiver through eBay. It worked
fine, and I installed it in my truck.
Last night on my way home, I hit a bump - nothing huge - and the radio quit
followed by that unpleasant smell we all know and fear. Yup. I let the
smoke out of something, and now the radio is dead in the water.
I opened it up this morning, and it turned out to be a nut that fastened a
light support panel behind the dial and meter in the front of the radio.
The nut fell down into the back of the rig, and shorted up against what
looks to be a power supply regulator.
I called Palstar, and I'm sending it in for repair on Monday. Normally I
fix things like this myself, but I have no schematic, and there's none
available. While it's there, I'll have them do all the upgrades they have
incorporated since this one was built.
Bottom line: If you use this mobile, or in a portable backpack application,
put a drop of silicone seal on any hardware that might come adrift..
