To run an R8 off a car battery, it should last quite while as solidstate
radios (receivers) don't draw much current. You could have the second
one charged, to go to when the first one runs down. I used a powerpak
for a while, but here I did not notice much difference as the noise
level is low. I have throught about getting another one as it would be
nice to use when the power was off due to wind storms though. Give your
battery idea a try. With your noise level coming in from the powerlines,
it might make a big difference. Here the powerlines are underground
which is very nice.
