Back in the early 70's, KENO-1460 Las Vegas did something similar.
They ran their call letters in morse code between late night news
items. This was back in the days when top 40 stations sometimes
punctuated their news with rapid beepbeepbeep's etc, so it probably
wasn't much of a distraction for listeners. I'm not sure how they came up with the idea - I didn't see any advance mention in DX bulletins. I just happened to noticed it while DXing. I was only able to hear them after midnight, so I'm not sure how often they did this, but it was likely only the all night show. Maybe they had a ham or AM DXer on the staff. I heard KJNP earlier this year, both while DXing and while vacationing in Alaska, and they were't running code IDs, so the practice must be long gone. Bruce George Sherman wrote:
