I think veries fulfill two purposes for the listener, one of which is
verification of a reception, and the other is the collection of the
QSL's themselves. Therefore perhaps at least the second purpose is
served. It all gets back to how one views things.

I personally never really got beyond the first purpose; and when I saw
some 20 years ago the time and expense I was investing into veries and
the dropping returns, and realized that I was recording it all anyway,
I made the decision that since for me the veries only served as proof
of reception, that recordings would do as well.

But had I also gotten into the collecting aspect avidly, I might very
well have made a different decision, although in no small part, my
decision was based on financial and time considerations too.
