[IRCA] 610-KEAR (5 kW) Received in the Cook Islands

610-KEAR, "Family Radio West Coast" from Oakland, California became the 7th USA station to crash the DU-DXing sunset skip sessions on Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, managing this fairly good signal (for 5 kW at 4,616 miles/ 7,429 km) with its religious format at 0835 UTC on 4-12 https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/jq81e11f3tq5o4slbe6ytsv477ffwg36

It joined 640-KFI, 1070-KNX, 1160-KSL, 1170-KFAQ, 1430-KMRB and 1640-KDIA as North American stations which were strong enough to completely wipe out 9 kHz-split frequencies in Aitutaki, despite the fact that there never was any search made for North American stations while DXing in the Cooks. 610-KEAR's signal was even more impressive in view of the fact that the 7.5" loopstick Ultralight was tuned to 612 kHz at the time, with the sharpest (1 kHz) DSP filter selected to reduce adjacent channel splatter (which, of course, was KEAR's entire signal in this situation). It's best to never underestimate ocean beach propagation on a tropical South Pacific island.

73 and Good DX,

Gary DeBock (DXing on Aitutaki, in the Cook Islands)
