Re: [IRCA] Alberta lack of TPs for 25 March 2017

That is indeed 1584 North Korea. And we still haven't the freaking foggiest idea what exactly they are jamming, though it wouldn't be the first time. The jammer is an older style analogue noise maker (as opposed to 819's digital jammer during their off-air hours, which isn't the norm) and it is turned off manually (which is the norm) just after 1am every morning.

I believe they're attempting to jam Harbin, which happens to turn off around that time, but it doesn't account for the Korean programming on the much-wider more widespread 1476 network out of Harbin, with multiple repeaters that get out well into Seoul. The jammer is not especially strong in Seoul, but it's persistent and likely based in the Pyongyang suburbs with 972 and a few of the other weaker ones. It's either rather distant, such as in the northern border areas of North Korea (if jamming Harbin) or it has low power. I believe the first of the two if it's being heard overseas at all. It clocks in at 30dBu in Seoul, just above the noise level but strong enough that it's heard 100% of the time it's on-air and largely covers the two 1kw KBS signals in the south (of which I do not believe the North is targeting due to their low power and distance).

It can have some interesting patterns on the SDR as well:

Naturally, this one along with all the jammers (new and old) and stations are in my own publication and audio documentary, making it hard to find an excuse to not know about it *wink*.

I think the bubble jamming is from North Korea. Heard sometimes weak
also here in Finland.

73 from still snowy eastern Finland,

Very nice Asian reception into Masset this morning. Highlight was 1584 with
bubble jamming. ? Iran, cochannel 100w NHK 1 often at good level. Not a
peep from DU and a modest post LSR enhancement. Indonesia on 90 and 60
meters exceptionally well heard. 73, from a sunny Queen Charlotte. Walt
