Re: [IRCA] ABC 6NM 1215khz Northam, Western Australia

Well, I took another listen, and agree with Chuck on the weather bit being reference to general conditions across South Australia and NSW for the four-day cricket test match between Australia and South Africa in Adelaide.

As a Kiwi-Canadian, I'd be hard-pressed to pin that accent down definitively as Aussie, although his pronunciation of "cricket" just following the weather reference does tend to be towards "creeket" rather than the average NZ flat vowel "crucket"... but it really isn't all that, erm, pronounced. And there are so many variations in speech in both countries...

Time-wise, it's still nigh-on impossible to have been Newstalk ZB from Kaikohe. Now that I've gotten my Alaskan zone figured out (could've sworn it was UT minus 10 -- oh well), 9.37 am/1837 UT Friday would've been 7.37 am NZDT Sat 26 Nov, and sunrise was ~6.04 am/1704 UT. The Far North is far enough west (~173 degrees) to be a bit later than Auckland or the strict meridian, and the sun angle at that latitude (~35.4 S) just over three weeks before the summer solstice wouldn't help.

As for 4HI, it appears in a lot of the Macquarie Network lists (such as local 7-11 pm "Nights With Steve Price" originating at 2GB and also carried by 4BC). The Macquarie list contradicts what 4BC's site sez it carries until 4.30 am: Macquarie claims "Luke Bona Australia Overnight" which comes out of 2UE -- 4BC has a whole bunch of shows that seem to run overnight, though one podcast dated 26 Nov sticks out:

<http://www.2gb.com/4bc/article/221466>

He says "till 5 am" but that would've been Sydney time, 4 am in Brissie I know, unnecessary details, but I mention it to show the websites aren't reliable!

However, your reception was at 4.37 am QT so we're no further ahead. It's a pity they (Macquarie/2GB/4BC/4HI) don't have program grids.

There's an email address though for Geoff Speed at 4HI:

I sent NewsTalk ZB a clip and I am going to assume they listened to because

I never assumed necessary this was a weather forecast per se but part of a
sports report of some kind... I am really beginning to think this is 4HI..

Multiple people have said this isnt an NZ Accent
I will find an answer to this, by golly!!

I don't think this is a true weather forecast with highs / lows/ etc.
Rather, I think it is a reference to the weather expected for a sporting
match. I believe they are talking about the expected conditions for the
international cricket matches in Adelaide.

These cricket matches are important to the cricket loving nations. It
seems possible that this is not a station from SA but rather a report being
carried on a station elsewhere. Paul says ZB says it is not them. On what
basis? Did they listen to a recording? If not, what were they asked? If the
question was "did you have an Australian weather forecast?" perhaps the
responder wouldn't know of the reference to weather in a cricket report.
