The guys in Alberta used to run Beverages across frozen lakes. Only problem for ones directly on the ice is that a slight surface thaw followed by a refreeze means that you will be reeling the wire in next spring, if at all, hi.

O am considering an interesting antenna location later this winter for
shites and giggles.. the yukon River is about 100 yards wide from river
bank to river bank.  I am considering for the heck of it, run a wire across
from one end of the bank to the other. would make a goo photo op, if
nothing else when the river is frozen up.
