Au contraire, Brother Bill. The short term enhancement just as a geomagnetic storm arrives has been noted for a long time. Doesn't always happen and isn't always big. I know of no explanation for it.

Yes, that's the first rule - NEVER let some geomag prediction keep you from the dials! Nobody here will bet you a new car [or even an old one] that X will happen if the geomag conditions are Y.
About the same time all sorts of particles were apparently hitting the ionosphere and driving up the A-index I was having the best TA conditions in a long time in the mid-Atlantic.
That's not what one normally expects.
