In Canada, Nov. 11th is called Remembrance Day, and is observed with 
memorial ceremonies at 11 AM (as the armistice ending WWI took effect on the 
11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month), and wearing of poppies ("In 
Flanders Fields the poppies grow/between the crosses row on row...).

On this day, as well as on June 6th (anniversary of d-day), I am grateful 
for the sacrifices of my grandparent's generation, some 60+ years ago.
