Re: [IRCA] 530/1610 Spanish (was: RE: 1610 kHz - Spanish - NOT Ontario)

Don't look for the Galapagos station to even come on. AMs are dying in
Ecuador very rapidly, with the major cities down about a third from the AM
count peaks of the 70's and 80's. Nearly all revenue has gone to FM, and Am
listening is dying, too

530: Cuba had put a Radio Rebelde/Radio Cadena Habana outlet on 530 earlier
this year. This was apparently to jam the airborne Radio Marti
transmissions. Depending on when he made the log, this might have been what
he was hearing. Since the end of August, I've not heard any Cuban activity
on 530 at any time, though they used to be audible daytime in the clear
here.
WRTH 05 lists stations in Argentina, Ecuador, and the Galapagos on 530,
though the last is mentioned as "inactive at the moment." That moment was a
year ago, at least.
So there's a lot of data and no resolution.

1610: Any info on that 1610 as far as program?

I received a letter (no Internet access) from a friend in Somerset
County, PA (southwest part of the state and about 25-30 miles north
of the Maryland border). He's hearing a station on 1610 kHz, in
Spanish, but distinct from the Ontario station.

Believe Argentina has a 500 watt (?) station operated by a
missionary/priest/?. Anyone have any ideas who this may be?
Naturally, I don't know his receiver or antenna.

He's also, frequently, pulling in a Spanish language station on 530
kHz, distinct from Turks & Caicos. Ideas?

	Thanks.

	Very 73 de Mike
