Awesome sunset skip tonite towards the west but with cx not being as good
towards WNW.
I noted KXNT chewing up WHAS 840 around 7:50 PM CDT so after chasing a
couple things unsuccessfully and noting my EVERY night this month(I did no
SSS DX early in month) that I tried Idaho catch "Oye Ocho Noventa" on 890
wasn't as good as it has been and had some KDXU QRM in WLS phase null, I
went over to 720 to check on KDWN which I have just recently realized I can
sometimes catch just prior to their switch time, through the phase null of
12 mile distant superlocal WGN, but tonite they seemed decent and I stuck
around and by 8 PM ID they were actually equal to WGN's phase null and what
a beautiful tape I have. They went into news and I tuned away, and soon came
back and they had a couple local spots with casino ments and switched late
about 8:02:20 and completely gone. So..anyhow..here's another Vegas target
other than screwed up patterned or what ever KXNT 840.
One thing I've learned in this hobby is that cx tend to carry over to nearby
freqs along similar paths so over to 710 where KSPN has a nice 50 kW daytime
signal. But no trace of ESPN or sports with WOR phased and LSB used to
minimize WGN slop. Mostly talk noted with some other EE QRM occ and some SS
mx in, KCMO and XEDP or KMIA or who knows. Anyhow..still no sports ..and
also nothing that might be needed KIRO(NY Vinnie's voice would be easy to
pick out) (also 50 kW ND days, but more northerly stuff not is so well today
(a bit later KOMO was weak in mix in WMVP phase null)
So around 8:12 over to 740 I went and quickly phased out CHWO and well atop
was what sounded like a rlg pgm getting ready to end. I logged KBRT Xmas eve
2002 here, just barely VP/P in weird slightly AU cx, but certainly wanted a
loud and clear catch I could tape. WOW....and sure enough KBRT ID's...and
then talks about programs and gives a K-Bright slogan and signs off (I guess
they don't use weak night power) ...so I cannot get 50 KW from LA on 710 but
get an effective 16 KW beamed to me on 740 !! Tuning past 680 KNBR is
allready in the mix it seemed !
I tune around a bit, and then over to 860 and phase CJBC and Victoria Taft's
voice (KPAM (OR) is soon lost to KNUJ which usually sounds too good for
listed 5 watts but certainly isn't 1 KW).. back to 710 I go to try for
KIRO..and at 8:29 I hear..this is Ron ?..??? (last name and not 100% sure of
first) with your KFIA newsbreak !! Hmmm..KFIA ?!? what is that me
thinks...and I grab the log and seem to recall northern CA and ..OMG..there
it is and I turn on my tape and ..I was at the end of it so I flip it but
not in time to turn it on for the second ID and then at 8:30:30 they are
gone (switch power etc)...anyhow new for me !! and I didn't do my homework
here as they beam 36 KW at me and should be caught again.
I tried for KEAR 610 San Fran but couldn't really copy what was behind KC
with easterlies phased.
TA's in tonite as well, but mostly Spainards in low band other than 1134
Croatia nice audible at times and 1314 Norway just barely. Spanish on 774
actually made it past WBBM and I could detect a carrier on 783 but no audio.
Also tried for 1530 Sao Tome again as TA BOG at 50 deg nulls WCKY decently
and had unID weak C&W mx in (unn Denison IA ?)..anyhow Yankee Doodle on 7290
// SW 0258-0259:30z and VOA s/on and NO trace of 1530.
Oh well...KFIA 710 and Spain 774 new tonite !!
73 KAZ.. Barrington IL.. Phased BOG System E-W and TA Bog 50 degrees
