Loops or wires bring it to life, don't they? RF gain switch really is effective. Found it difficult if not impossible to overload even w/direct connected long wire, rather than thru coupler. Camped one on 5696U using dedicated whip from '85 - '94 in RI. Same in FL until it went to sleep '03. Continuous service tells the tale, replacement in works. DX-398's on couplers here good on BCB, excellent for SSB ute camping.
