[IRCA] Introduction
To all:
I figured Iâd take a few minutes to introduce myself as Iâm new to this
list. (I recently migrated over to the IRCA listserver from the
corresponding NRC one.) My current QTH is Wilmington, Delaware, and Iâve
had an off-and-on again interest in MW DXing for the better part of 30
years. Said interest has been, for the majority of this time, confined to
listening to the blowtorches on a variety of small, portable, analogue and
digital receivers. Indeed, I have fond memories of listening in the mid-70s
from my home in Albany, New York, to rock and roll music on the trio of
WABC (âDan IngramâIngramâIngramââ), WNBC and WOWO. I also listened quite a
bit to Gene Hartâs play-by-play for the Broadstreet Bullies (aka the
Philadelphia Flyers) on WCAU (the forerunner of WPHT). I also seem to
recall having a penchant for the programming broadcast on CKLW and WLS in
the late 70âs/early 80âs. CKLM out of Montreal was a favorite for a while
as well despite my not understanding the language.
I did exceedingly little MW DXing for most of the latter part of the 80s
and for pretty much all of the 90s. About 3 years ago, I got bitten by the
bug again and purchased some nifty new equipment and interfaced them with
external (to my house) antennas. Concurrent with this renewed interest was
my participation in the NRC listserver which provided me with much useful
hobby related information and allowed an outlet for my DX catches (provided
under the moniker âDX Update From Northern DEâ), now confined to non-blow
torch stations (unless theyâre difficult to hear at my current QTH).
Although I am sorry to see the NRC listserver disappear, I have no doubt
that the IRCA list will more than make up for this deficit.
In closing, let me wish everyone a great DX season (if indeed there is such
a thing) and point you to the website where I have archived, as written
logs and .mp3 based recordings, all of my MW DX catches from the past 3
years, viz:

Note that if youâre interested in hearing what IBOC based interference
sounds like, there is a page on my site with some recordings of said
interference, most of which have been kindly provided by fellow DXers:
