A couple of years ago when the ProIII came out (many thought the extra
thousand not worth it) HRO was selling the ProIIs for $2,100. Many DXers use
transceivers. I used my Yaesu 1000MP before the Icom. As I said, they have
this nasty habit of putting a10db or so attenuation in the MW receiver. It
actually doesn't usually make much difference during decent conditions with
good signals. But your TP distances are routinely twice what our TA
distances are here on the EC and every bit helps.
You may remember at Bruce's get-together last winter in Seattle, Guy Atkins
brought his Icom transceiver for demo and there are others out there who use
transceivers. With the trend of the "receiver only" manufacturers leaving
the market, the latest in receiver technology could end up available only in
transceivers. Of course there are millions of good receivers out there that
will last a long time.
