[IRCA] Re: Off topic. Vacation portable radio?

Barry - the memory battery contact problem is common in the Sony ICF-2001D (ICF-2010 on this side of the pond). Of my numerous radios the ICF-2010 is the best on MW but I seldom use it, mainly because of its size. I bought a couple of short books about the 2001D/2010 from one of your fellow countrymen and I think it has some info about how to fix the problem. I'll try to find it.

Sony stopped selling them a few years back but they are still highly in demand and would bring quite a good price. My advice is to keep it and try to fix the battery problem. I'll see what I can come up with to help.

I still have a Sony ICF 2001D boxed up in the shed. It must be 20 years old and I think I have problems with the memory battery compartment. (Failed contact=blank  display=loss of station.)  I do like Sony gear. I have a £10 Sony analogue portable for around the house which has sharp selectivity. I may dig out the ICF  and have a look at how big a problem I have. It certainly gave a good account of itself when we were in AB & MT a few years ago. I have been to FL a couple of times now and have not been  impressed DX wise around WDW even at 0500EST. Noisy and lots of powerful signals on the AM band. Still it's a vacation for the family not a DXpedition hi!
