Well, at least for me this is the big change:

20 years ago you had to wait for the DX magazine to show up on your door 
steps. Seeing what others have heard and what's hot on the airwaves took 
usually months, and usually never less than few weeks. Nowadays you will 
get your DX information almost immediately.
