[HCDX] EWE Antenna

A properly designed EWE receive antenna should be non resonant and have no
noticeable bandwidth within the AM broadcast band. Running parallel wires on
a EWE would only make it harder to maximize front to back due to interaction
of the wires. I abandoned the EWE a good while back for the "KAZ" type of
delta loop and then the flag antenna, which has more gain then the delta
loop. With the delta and flag receive antennas you overcome the inherent
weakness of the EWE design, which is dependence on good ground conductivity
under and around the antenna.

Using this logic, then for an AM transmitter site would the directional
antenna pattern change if bandwidth is increased by a wider faced antenna?

My thinking was that a Ewe antenna with a wider face would result in more
consistent impedance vs. frequency, thus more consistent back nulls over the
entire MW band, and grounding would become less of a factor.  The improved
impedance matching vs. frequency would result in a more efficient antenna
producing better signals and less noise.

I want to try this, but it's not going to be easy pulling multiple wires
through the trees.  I'm going to have to think about how to do it.  Maybe
it's time to invest in some tree-climbing equipment; spiked shoes, ropes,
etc.  Something else to entertain the neighbors, I guess.  Tomorrow's
headlines; "DXer falls from tree while installing AM antennas," or "Fire
department rescues DXer stuck atop tree."
