I have the plain AR7030 with an extra 3.8 kHz filter added. In a quiet location
I can switch the antenna input to the centre position, designed for a whip
rather than anything with serious gain. This brings up the signal quite well in
some cases. I assume this is acting like some sort of preamp, apart from the one
you can set as the normal inbuilt preamp.
I am using a T2FD cut for a low of about 4 MHz at home, occasionally this
feature is useful here if local noise isn't too bad. In the bush it can
certainly be of help.
