Hi Mark,
Thanks for the info, this is a great idea in re-using the remote termination
developed for the Beverage and the K9AY.
Taking an other look at amplifiers for the Pennant. I would suggest using a
Hi z input balanced J fet or mos fet amp directly at the antenna. This would
provide a good match to the antenna z and provide the 50 Ohm feeder match.
More importantly, this would improve the common mode feeder/antenna
isolation. Using additional amplification at the receiver end of the feeder
may amplify the signal pick-up on the feeder and degrade the F/B.
Btw. a simple balanced transformer F/B FET amp using say 4 J309 in a unity
gain voltage amp ( 13dB power gain 1k input to 50ohm output ) would give
nearly +66dBm IP2 and about +33dBm IP3. However, I may be guilty of over
specifying the amplifier Intermod performance in view of the low output of
the Pennant at Long and Medium wave.
Regards
Andy
