2001- 15149.80- INDONESIA- Voice of Indonesia 2001 Program in English,
as announced by woman. Music until 2003, then news read by man until
2012. Intended progam actually started promptly at 2000, however, tape
was playing backwards probably due to an engineering error. Signal very
strong and readable but degrading with time. Thanks to tip of French
broadcast (in previous hour) by Mark Veldhuis on #swl, as well as the
absence of Radio Canada International (strike?), which is supposed to be
broadcasting in French at this time. (Fine, USA 28 Feb)
2157- 9500- CHINA PR- CPBS 2, Beijing 2157-2200 advs, then clock , time
at Beijing then YL with news About 32332 with strong QRM from DW indon

QRG , 2208 with Wartaberita closed then a hymn ( not the previously
used) . Very good signal at 44433 ( Liangas, Greece March 2 )
2209- 4800- UNID- UnID 2209 After Lesotho s/off at 2215, very weak
station in the clear with mournful, exotic Central Asian-style
chant-singing; Oriental flute melody at 2227. Faint, echoey
announcements by man at 2229 and woman at 2230 in nontonal language,
then back to music, some with subcontinental-type drum accompaniment. At
2300, a Latin either s/on or suddenly faded up, killing the unID. WRTH
shows CPBS Minority Service on 4800 in freq listing but not individual
skeds, and I can't find it at all anywhere else. Not heard since then
despite several tries. (Hill, USA Feb. 14+)
2224- 7290- CHINA PR- CPBS-1 2224 Man and woman in Chinese with string
of ads and/or promos delivered in bouncy, high-energy Western style; //
9080. Another indication that decadent capitalism continues to make
significant inroads in the People's Republic. Dreadful audio, muffled
and boomy, but amazingly strong level this day. (Hill, USA Feb. 21)
2312- 3927- PIRATE EUROPE- R.Korak Int. 27 Feb., Mx pop,ID in Dutch,E
33333 (Pecolatto, Italy / Radiorama Pirate News)

2324- 15820- ARGENTINA- Unid. Relay (in LSB), 2324-2342, Up-beat
discussion pgm by sev. men w/a good bit of laughing. 2330-2332 ad/promo
block including what sounded like an ID jingle sounding like "R. Valpa".
Brief nx headlines by M at 2332, more ads/promos at 2333, then back to
the discussion w/the men who took phone calls. Very good clear signal,
prob. best hrd. Seems to be on 24 hrs now as there's usually something
audible whenever I check. (Valko, USA 26 Feb.)

ANTARCTICA - Suspected R. Nacional Arcangel San Gabriel playing
Argentine folklore vocal music, tuned 15476 kHz from 2255 UT on 2/18
with fair signal, built to STRONG S9+ by 2330. Several breaks in music
but no announcements. Still good but fading when went off the air
without ID at 0059. Heterodyne on high side from a Spanish-speaking
numbers station on 15478. First time heard here, with major geomagnetic
storm in progress! (That, along with near gray-line path, must have
really enhanced the N-S propagation). 73 de (John Cobb, Roswell, GA, Feb
19, REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING and WORLD OF RADIO 978 / GH
SW/DX REPORT 99-10, Feb 24) --- Got positive ID on 2/20, female
announcing "prueba...con diez kilowatts potencia..." This must be their
new xmtr testing. Reception continued good thru the weekend; recorded
Argentine music and occasional IDs. S/off time varies day to day, noted
off about 2350 UT one day, 0101 UT another. Signal is great for 10 KW,
much better than RAE on 15345, with some flutter/QSB. Now is the time to
log them! (John Cobb, GA, Feb 22, ibid. / GH SW/DX REPORT 99-10, Feb 24)

AUSTRALIA - Radio Australia Program Notes. 1. "Arts Australia" replaced
by "Arts Talk". The longrunning Radio Australia-produced program "Arts
Australia" has been discontinued as its host and producer Andrea
Italiano moves on to other projects. In its place, Radio Australia will
broadcast the domestic Radio National program "Arts Talk". The change
was announced last weekend by Roger Broadbent in the RA program
"Feedback". According to the ABC's Radio National web site, "Arts Talk"
features Julie Copeland who "presents the world of arts and cultural
ideas, both nationally and internationally. This weekly program looks at
the arts in their historical, political and social context. Through
lively interviews with artists, thinkers and critics, as well as some
performance, Arts Talk explores how culture works, and continues to
evolve." The program as such sounds quite similar to the one it
replaces, save for a slightly wider scope. "Arts Talk" can be heard on
shortwave and the Internet on Saturdays at 0630 and 1330, Tuesdays at
2330 and Wednesdays at 2130. The program is also carried by WRN on
satellite and the Internet on Tuesdays at 1630. --- 2. Correction. I
stated in a previous "SWL Program News" that the new program "Australia
Talks Books" would be heard every Friday. In actuality, it will be a
monthly program appearing on the last Friday of each month. The book for
the March 26 program is "Lovesong", acclaimed as Elizabeth Jolley's most
important work to date, according to the Radio National web site.
"'Lovesong' takes the reader on an emotional odyssey as it sweeps deftly
to the untouched depths of both heart and soul." "Australia Talks
Books" runs in the "Australia Talks Back" slot, which is heard Mon. to
Fri. at 0305 and 1705 on Radio Australia. 73, John Figliozzi, Editor The

CONGO- R. Bukavu heard Feb 25 at 1620-1803* in French, African language,
Swahili, reception extremely difficult, on 6713 USB (Mahendra Vaghjee,
Mauritius, WORLD OF RADIO 979/ GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-11, March 3)
IRAN- [non]. As shown in the new WWCR sked for Mar, R. International
(why they call it Perspectives on Iran, I don't know) has been
rescheduled to M-F 1400-1430 on 15685. I forget to check Fri Feb 26 but
it was on when checked Mon Mar 1. This has bumped VOA Communications
World repeat from Tue at 1400 to Thu at 1330 (Glenn Hauser, REVIEW OF
INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING/ GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-11, March 3)
IRAN - [non]. WWCR's mysterious Persian program appeared at a new time
Feb 23, Tue 1400 on 15685 instead of VOA Comms World. While I still
don't understand Persian, this appears to be another test program,
consisting mostly of music alternating with long identical (?)
announcements giving schedule, ID and contact info. This time the only
ID I could make out was "R. International," the other word Porseh
(Question) not heard; mentioned both Dushanbe and Teheran, probably in
giving local times; Tajik is closely related to Persian. While it has
been a one-hour program, this ended at 1430 for English "Bible Pathway".
And R. International was back the next day, Wed Feb 24 at 1400-1428, so
maybe now stripped then weekdays? 1400 on 15685 ought to be the optimum
time and frequency for actually reaching Iran from WWCR, better than
1100 on 12160 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 978 / GH SW/DX REPORT
99-10, Feb 24 )
MEXICO - XEYU definitely logged here on 9600.15 or so, Feb 24 at 0559
with S3 signal but very low modulation requiring AF gain wide open:
(chime), "Esta es Radio Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico,
transmitiendo desde Mexico, Distrito Federal, capital de la republica
(chime), 860 kHz amplitud modulada estereofonica, XEUN; 96.1 MHz
frecuencia modulada...[adjacent QRM now bothering from station opening

metros...Retransmitimos el siguiente Panorama informativo..." and news.
BTW, upon 1230 recheck the rapid noise pulses reported months ago were
still dominating 9600, no XEYU audible, and also heard on various open
frequencies between 9540 and 9700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 978
which includes a recording / GH SW/DX REPORT 99-10, Feb 24)
