[HCDX]: DX from the deep south......

Hello all

A few logs from August heard at the tip of Africa. Those marked with an
asterisk (*) were heard in the Karoo desert 140KM N.E. of Cape Town
using my Icom R-70 and a 1000 metre beverage antenna beamed more or less
at Florida. The rest were heard at home using the Icom plus a Collins
R-389 and a spiral MW loop. 

I was hoping for more Aussies while in the desert but conditions did not
prove that good. This is the same location where I heard 6GS in April so
its definitely a "hot-spot" but the weekend I went was a particularly
bad one - high sunspot counts etc...



* 800 00h57 02/8 NETH ANTILLES TWR Bonaire. in Spanish w Ann, ID & mx,
good. (a regular in the early mornings)

* 810 17h20 01/8 Australia 6 RN Perth. Classical & Jazz mx, poor-fair
signal.

900 2210 12/8 ITALY RAI Rome. in It w talk about Juventus, good.

960 04h40 21/8 Colombia CARACOL (location?). ID's in SS, fair

1179 21h30 12/8 SWEDEN R.Sweden. ID and prog "...(?)degrees North"
starting with nx. in English till 21h59.

1395 20h55 11/8 Albania TWR relay. in English with Gospel prog, ID and
addr in UK, s/off 21h00, poor/fair.

1395 21h02 11/8 Netherlands Talk R Lopik. in Dutch w nx & ID, poor
butgot better.

* 1400 23h21 01/8 GRENADA Harbour Light Carriacou. Gospel progs,
addresses, ID's plus "Granger Bill" , a Gospel radio play with a moral
to the story. generally very poor but occasional peaks.

* 1540 00h15 02/8 BAHAMAS ZNS-1 Nassau. Live coverage of some local
event (a regular here in Cape Town during the early morning, fair.

* 1566 17h35 01/8 INDIA AIR Nagpur. nx in English, fair.


* 1610 00h28 2/8 ANGUILLA Caribbean Beacon. Gospel pop mx, fair-good.
(haven't heard this one for a while - power of txer apparently reduced)

*1620 04h20 02/8 USA WPHG Atmore AL. Gospel progs. Ads for "Check your
baggage at the door". Prog: Night of the Radio Revival and full ID at
05h29, poor with occasional peaks.

*1670 04h22 02/8 USA WNML Macon. Sports progs and many mentions of ESPN
radio, very poor.

* 1700 0444 02/8 Unidentified in Spanish w slow pop mx & phone-in, poor.
(WCMQ ?)
