1359 SPAIN, Arganda, AUG 1 0225 - man & woman in SS; fair

1395 NETHERLANDS, Lopik, AUG 17 0110 - Dutch teletalk show
with male "talkmaster"; fair to good. Hearing this station
only 2 miles / 3 km away from superlocal WPLM-1390 certainly
shows what phasing can accomplish. [Connelly*P-MA]
1413 SPAIN, RNE5 synchros, AUG 17 0108 - SS talk; fair in
CIGO slop. [Connelly*P-MA]
1422 ALGERIA, Algiers, AUG 17 0037 - thanks to some very
quiet passages in the classical music on the much-stronger
German, I was able to discern the AA vocal from this one in
the background. [Connelly*P-MA]
1422 GERMANY, Deutschlandradio, Heusweiler, AUG 1 0127 -
romantic vocal with syrupy violins (like something from a
1940's movie), then woman in GG; fair. [Connelly*P-MA]
+ AUG 6 0011 - classical music; to good peak. [Connelly*rw-MA]
1485 SPAIN, SER synchros, AUG 17 0046 - // 1044 with fast
SS talk; fair. [Connelly*P-MA]
1503 IRAN, IRIB, Bushehr (t), AUG 17 0106 - this one probable
with flutes and Middle Eastern music; poor, in mix with others.
There were some very potent high-band signals coming in from
the Middle East at the time. [Connelly*P-MA]
1512 SAUDI ARABIA, BSKSA, Jeddah, AUG 1 0233 - AA vocal
well atop an apparent second station; tough WNRB slop at
times. + AUG 17 0057 - a really HUGE signal here with Oud
and other AA strings, then a male vocal. This was blasting
in so well that anybody on the South Shore or the Cape trying
to hear WNRB's sportstalk was going to have a tough time of

1521 SAUDI ARABIA, BSKSA, Duba, AUG 1 0300 - AA talk by man
at sign-on; excellent signal, annihilating WWKB. [Connelly*P-MA]
1530 VATICAN, R. Vaticana, AUG 1 0227 - Vatican interval
signal music repeated several times; huge signal, about 20 dB
stronger than WSAI or whatever else was under. At 0230, some
Slavic-sounding talk was heard. [Connelly*P-MA]
1548 KUWAIT, VOA, Kuwait City, AUG 16 2345 - US EE talk about
the US Senate; strong, way over an unID music station. This
and Algeria-1550 were taking turns QRM'ing each other: TA's
slopping TA's at a North American receiving site ! + AUG 17 0104 -
VOA news about the deadly bombing in Omagh, Northern Ireland.
Signal was huge & local-like: I don't hear that many Middle
East SHORTWAVE stations this loud ! [Connelly*P-MA]
1548 UNITED KINGDOM, AUG 1 0235 - at least two British
stations were battling it out here. One, presumably Bristol-
Mangotsfield, had BBC talk // 5975 and another station had
music. I think there may have been a teletalker in the jumble

1550 ALGERIA - CLANDESTINE, Tindouf, AUG 5 2330 - AA talk;
to very good peak. [Connelly*rw-MA] + AUG 16 2344 - AA talk;
excellent, at least S9+20 dB. [Connelly*P-MA]
1559 unID (Middle East CLANDESTINE ?), AUG 17 0101 - a whopper
of a 1 kHz heterodyne on WQEW and some thin AA-sounding audio.
There was also something coming in on 1557 (weak: sounded like
opera). On 1559 I'd heard what I think was the same AA station
last October at 0004 UTC. Does anyone have a location for this ?

1584 CEUTA, RadiOle, AUG 17 0053 - SS pop-rock briefly broke over
the SER Spain station and some other jumbled stuff. [Connelly*P-MA]
1584 SPAIN, SER synchros, AUG 16 2346 - // 1575 with SS
teletalk; to fair peak through CBJ slop. [Connelly*P-MA]
1593 EGYPT, Matruh (t), AUG 17 0059 - probably this one with
thin AA-sounding vocal in and out of the slop. Iran is also
listed here, so this frequency needs some more work on a
good Middle East night. [Connelly*P-MA]
1602 SPAIN, EI, Vitoria, AUG 1 0237 - non-SER program with
woman in SS interspersed with music segments; excellent.

fair through residual slop from phased WUNR. [Connelly*rw-MA]

(Unfortunately I missed the aurora that happened a night or
two after the Rowley, MA "DX Clams" mini-DXpedition, so not
much to report coming up from the south.)
555 ST. KITTS & NEVIS, ZIZ, Basseterre, AUG 6 0156 - soft-
voiced woman in EE; poor to fair. [Connelly*rw-MA]
670 VENEZUELA, R. Rumbos, YVLL, Caracas, AUG 6 0052 - slogan
ID "Radio Rumbos, la emisora de Venezuela"; over/under CKXB-NF

Caribbean EE talk by man; poor to fair with WOR phased.
