Year 2 Number 40 - Rome, 20 October 1997
KOREAN REPUBLIC - To commemorate the 200th edition of the DX Report on
Radio Korea International, Adventist World Radio has been invited to
participate in a special one-time relay broadcast. The special
broadcast will air on December 21st and the early hours of December 22nd
during RKI's regular English language broadcasts. This unique
opportunity will allow DXers to QSL their reception of AWR as relayed
via Radio Korea International's global network. AWR announces that all
correct reception reports will earn a verification card with special
endorsement to mark the event. For those of you pursuing Adventist World
Radio QSL stamps for your Reception Certificates, this will be an
opportunity to earn up to three additional sites for your certificate:
AWR - Kimje, AWR - Skelton, and AWR - Sackville. RKI hopes you'll join
in the fun for this special 200th edition of the DX Report. (Bill
Matthews, 13 Oct / EDXP # 64).

MALI - [non]. An English schedule from CRI dated May 5, has just been
received with the former Mali relay frequencies 9710 and 11715 marked
out at 0000 and 0300; and the same for E&S Africa at 1600 with 15130 and
15110 replaced by 9565, 9620; 2000 and 2100 11715 and 15110 replaced by
9535, 7180, but we suspect the new ones are Urumchi rather than Mali
(via Gigi Lytle, WORLD OF RADIO 914 / SW/DX Report 97-17, Oct 16)

SAN MARINO - RADIO SAN MARINO INTERNATIONAL was on the air on October
19th, 1997 from 0700 or 0800 UTC on 11410 kHz USB with non-stop-music
test transmission. (tx to RSMI and Tom Sundstrom' s e-mails...but,
unfortunately, I could not hear it due to family obligations. Ed. )
SAN MARINO - RADIO SAN MARINO INTERNATIONAL will be the first
broadcasting station transmitting on Short Waves from the territory of
the Republic of San Marino. The " unofficial " station is an
Italo-German-Sanmarinese cooperation to give an international voice to
the small Republic, and finally, for activating a new Country in the
world broadcasting panorama. This event has a particular importance,
even if the station has been conceived for hobby purpose. The
transmitters powers, from 0.2 kW to 1 kW, and the utilized frequencies,
would permit a discreet coverage of the European countries, and maybe
all over the world. The first broadcast is scheduled for the evening of
Saturday 20 December 1997, and will be transmitted again the first hours
of Sunday 21 morning. Presumably, RSMI will utilize the 75 and 41
meters bands for the evening broadcasts, and the 41 and 13 meters bands
for the broadcasts in the morning. The exact frequencies are in course
of definition and will be communicated as soon as possible on our Web
page < http://www.exactweb.com/RSMI > and through our mailing list. The
transmissions will be, at least in the first period, in Italian and
German. Each broadcast will be preceded by the Sanmarinese National
Anthem and by an announcement in English . RSMI address will be known as
soon as possible, to send your reception reports that will be confirmed
with a QSL, informative material about the radiostation and, on request,
touristic material, sticker, pennant and t-shirt (ask for RSM very, nice
stamps too !!! Gianni, Ed..),. In conclusion, we thanks all those
people who are writing us during these days for encouraging us in our
work, asking informations and for supporting our enterprise. ( RSMI Web
page in Italian, translated in English by Giovanni Serra, ed.)
SAN MARINO - The Repubblica di San Marino is a state surrounded by the
Italian territory, in north east of Italy, at about 17 kilometers from
the Adriatic sea. It is an independent Republic of 60.57 squared
kilometers, with no customs for Italy, but with its own Constitution,
legislation etc. I think it is the oldest existing Republic in the
world. Founded on September 3rd of the year 301 ( IV Century A.C.) by
a humble stone cutter, Marino (i.e.: from the sea), its capital is San
Marino, laid on the three peaks of Monte Titano (about 750 meters over
the sea). Each peak has three towers. The 1st is called Rocca, or Guaita
XI century After Christ; the 2nd is La Cesta, end of XIII century A. C.;
the 3rd is La Montale, end of XIII century A. C. The chief of the
state...actually are two Captains, elected every six months by the
Consiglio Grande e Generale, the Parliament of the Republic. The
official language is the Italian and the currency is the Italian Lira,
even if it has the Lira (coins only) and stamps of San Marino,
especially for tourism purposes and for collections. Tourism is the
major industry. I have been in San Marino a lot of times, and I love it
very much. .....really, it is fantastic! Also I purchased my Sony ICF
2001 D during a round trip in San Marino Republic on June 1989. (Serra,
ed. )
SWITZERLAND - According to information from SUI the oldest Swiss SW
station at Schwarzenburg will draw back from overseas sce for SRI next
year. Only non-directional reserve unit for Lenk 6165 kHz, and EUR sce
in 31mb will be kept in service for the time being. Schwarzenburg Z97
schedule on 9535 is 0400-0700 80 degr, 1000-1300 230 degr: 9905
1700-1845 20 degr. SW Sottens in western Switzerland with 500 kW of
power will remain overseas. Lenk 3985 used for CRI Beijing relay to
CeEUR. Will SRI increase using curtain antennas at Juelich facility in
Germany? (Christian Bruelhart, Switzerland, Oct 6 in BCDX / EDXP # 64).
USA - SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. The Deutsche Telekom W97 schedule includes
12 frequency-hours a day attributed to "TOM". Ivan Grishin figured out
this must stand for The Overcomer Ministry, i.e. Brother Stair, who was
previously heard by Jim Moats to say he was buying 12 hours a day
following tests in August via DTK. Here's the schedule effective Oct 26
via BC-DX: 0600-0759 9500 255 degrees Au/NZ - 1600-1759 6175 ND CEu,
11985 115 NE/ME/E Eu - 0100-0259 6170 295 EN Am - 0200-0359 5840 310 CN
Am, 6025 320 WN Am. Note that during the prime hour of 0200 due to
overlap he is on three frequencies at once to NAm. I can hardly wait
(Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 914 / SW/DX Report 97-17, Oct 16)
VENEZUELA - 4980 Friendly Ecos del Torbes is celebrating 50 years
("bodas de oro") this year. One special anniversary broadcast worth
listening to is "Recordando A gozar, muchachos" (Remembering Have a good
time, guys), Sat 2200-2300, featuring lots of oldies recorded by
Venezuelan dance band Billo's Caracas Boys whose "A gozar, muchachos"
show was live on R Caracas in the 50's. Prgr producer, Dr. Simón
Zaidman, will appreciate reception reports either directly to him or via
station manager (Mrs.) Lic. Dinorah González Zerpa to the usual Apartado
Postal 152 address. In answer to an inquiry of mine, Zaidman in the Oct
11 broadcast said that a commemorative pennant will be ready shortly for
reporters to his show. On Oct 18, part of this prgr will carry special
announcements for NORDX 97 participants. (H. Klemetz, Colombia /
Dateline Bogota October 12, 1997)
