   GLENN HAUSER'S SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 97-07, JULY 24, 1997

THIS WEEK ON WORLD OF RADIO 903: Besides the accompanying items on
Germany, Greece and Florida, if you don't listen to this week'
W.O.R., you will also miss many more stories, such as: Tandy starting
new chain, Crane catalog, how to hear Monitor Radio farewell, RFA
may be using Alaska, FM pirates in the Tampa area, DX net from Mexico,
Voice of Free Nigeria site narrowed down, Liechtenstein on SW, and
much, much more. On WWCR July 24-29: Thu 2030 15685, Sat 0530 5070,
0605 3210, 1130 5070, Sun 0900 3210, 2330 5070, Tue 1230 15685. On RFPI
July 25-August 1: Sat 0400, 1100, 1800, Sun 0200, 0900, 2300, Mon 0700,
Tue 1900, Wed 0300, 1000, Fri 2000 on some or all of: 15050, 7585-USB,
7385. On WGTG, UT Tue July 29 at 0400 on 5085-USB. Also available on
World Radio Network Sound Store any time after 1645 Saturday. More
details on our website, including a full summary of WOR 903 topics:
http://idt.net/~khecht19/ghauser (Glenn Hauser, OK)

GERMANY. Brother Stair was heard to say that he is considering buying
time on Deutsche Telekom, if funds can be raised (Jim Moats, OH, World
of Radio 903)

GREECE [non]. Voice of Greece relays via VOA Delano and Greenville
started July 19. We have been predicting this would happen for almost
a year. Ironically, the first two minutes of Communications World on
7768.5-USB at 1230 were replaced by Greek mistakenly, and VOA CW
was joined just as Kim was talking about the schedule. The 1200-1350
on 9590 (not 9550) from Greenville has some co-channel QRM at first,
but then pounds in, including English news at 1340 with awkward
phrasing such as "The today's session...". The 1830-2200 broadcast
on 11730 from Delano also booms in, including English news at 1840
and 2000, but why the Balkan languages before 2000? Weaker on //17745
Greenville to LAm (Glenn Hauser, OK, and WORLD OF RADIO 903)

IRELAND [non]. Last week I said the WCRI had used both 9855 and 9875;
actually I was thinking about Lithuania via Germany in the previous
hour 0000 (Glenn Hauser, OK)

NICARAGUA. R. Miskut, 5770-USB barely audible amid static crashes with
very weak signal still at presumed QRP, July 24 at 1202 with ID
mentioning 104 MHz, as reported last week (Glenn Hauser, OK)

U S A. More on the Ft. Pierce, Florida, 26470 outlet. July 23 before
1400 spotted Barney on channel 2, so figured sporadic E was in from
Miami. Turned off TV and sure enough there was scratchy NBFM fading in
and out on 26470 with gospel music, best with slope detection a kHz
or two to the side. Gave ID for 91.1, and also unlisted 107.1 in West
Palm Beach; sermon after 1405; still, or again in at 1730 check with
rap, 1752 unexpected ID for 91.1, WJFP. FM Atlas gives slogan as
"91 Jams" with soul format, but obviously also gospel. Tampa 25870
could also be heard at times. More grist for Terry Krueger's low-power
Florida list: http://home.earthlink.net/~tocobagadx/flortis.html
Don't forget the tilde like I did when speaking the URL (Glenn Hauser,
OK, and WORLD OF RADIO 903) ###
