680 kHz New Year Mystery
========================
Hi everybody,
if you do not mind, please have a look into your logbook, maybe you have
heard the station I am writing about and you can help me to identify it.
Date: January 1, 1997
Time: 0718-0802 UTC
Frequency: 680 kHz
Location of the station: USA (Canada)
There was a mess of stations on the frequency:
CFTR Toronto ON - All News
CJOB Winnipeg MB - Country
"WBTO-FM" (ID heard),probably WRKO Boston relaying the FM station that nite?
Then there was a STATION with a live transmission from a jazz club or
New Year:s party, playing jazz, nostalgia and big band tunes and songs.
I heard something like "The Jazz Party" what could be a name of this
program.
The station has been fading in and out and in that mess of stations it
happened that shortly before 0800 UTC a signal faded in with a big band
tune, a woman announced midnight and a man counted-down:
4 - 3 - 2 - 1, followed by an applaus of the audience and (without a word)
a well known tune started, being played on saxophones.
After ca. 2 minutes the station faded out and did not appear anymore ....
It is promising to think about a station from the area where midnight
is at 0800 UTC (Pacific Time), but what station could it be ?
There is only one station in California (KNBR) with a talk/sport format
and 2 stations in Washington (state) (KBRD, KOMW), not on the air
during the night.
BTW - I did not hear the station here in central Europe, but on the
northwest coast of Denmark.
Thanks a lot for your advice, GOOD DX,
Karel :::::::: khonzik@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
