[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on Feb 4

It never fails. Whenever I compare my TP DX with Dennis and Gary's reports, it's like we're talking about different days.

Today was really interesting in several ways. The upper and lower halves of the band behaved completely differently. Signals below about 1100 peaked early, at about 1300 give or take an hour. Several NHK stations produced half-hearted audio. HLCA-972 and KICY-850 were briefly quite good. Otherwise, there wasn't much to be heard even though the meager TP reception was better than it's been in a while.

The upper part of the dial had its best moments at about 1500. The sunrise enhancement took place about a half hour earlier than on previous days, roughly 1455-1510. There were carriers on many frequencies, but only a few had audio. The CNR stations on 1377 and 1593 had their best appearances in quite a while.

Good - A native speaker could have understood most of it, even if only for brief periods 850 KICY (presumed), briefly atop KHHO/KOA with man in Russian, then Russian folk song 1248. Soon faded.
972 HLCA, 3+1 pips 1300, fanfare, then woman in Korean
1566 HLAZ, hymn 1326, then woman in Japanese. Usual close of Japanese service 1344. Much weaker during the opening minutes of the Chinese program, but rebounded in a big way 1411. Mediocre signal during the sunrise enhancement 1575 VOA, talk in Asian language fair-good 1456, "this is the Voice of America, Washington DC, signing off" 1459:33, then Yankee Doodle. Seemed to be just an open carrier after 1500

Fair - a native speaker would have recognized some words and phrases
774 JOUB, weather report 1318, then local ID 1320, faded, then back with EE lessons 1322
1377 CNR1, Chinese talk in KRKO splatter 1455 //1593
1593 CNR1, very good signal getting mercilessly pounded by KLFE splatter. Managed to catch a few syllables of CC talk just before ToH, one of the time pips during very brief KLFE audio pause 1500, bits of the CNR1 theme music and partial "Zhongyang..." ID 1500:35. Better 1503-1510 with man & woman in Chinese valiantly struggling against the oppressive Capitalist splatter.

Poor - mumblings in the splatter
693 JOAB, 1326 cheery woman talking, sounded like part of language lesson
747 JOIB bits of talk 1157
828 JOBB, faint pips 1300, weak weather report 1308
1170 partial pips from somebody, probably KBS u/KPUG 1500
1476 Probably China, weak music 1456, faint echoey 5+1 pips 1500, then music continued

Carriers - 1044 1098 1116 1125 1134 1179 1206 1287 1323 1332 1359 1386 1404 1413 1422 1431 1467 1485 1494 1503 1512 1548 1557 1584 1602
