[IRCA] A Few Tips For Logging KVSH 940 Valentine, Nebraska

Over the last several years of listening to KVSH online, I've picked up on
a few tips that might help DX'ers who are looking to log KVSh or identify
what they've heard.

KVSH usually signs on within 1 minute of 6AM Central 7 days a week. When
they sign on, the carrier isn't on long before the sign on announcement
starts. They sign on with the national anthem and then Mike Burge with a
sign on announcement played off a cart. Then Mike Burge comes on live from
the studio and usually starts with the weather.

Their weather forecasts are usually read live between about 26 and 28 after
the hour with quite a bit of detail.
Their newscasts begin anywhere between 53 and 56 after.

In the case of the newscasts and weathercasts, intro music is played and
usually trails out completely before the announcer comes on.

The Legal ID is done live and no one announcer they've got does the Legal
ID the same way. Sometimes there's dead air after the news and before the
ID. Sometimes, they join the news when it's already started. They do often
refer to themselves as "heart City Radio"

They regularly, about 99 percent of the time, will go into a commercial
break after a song and come out of a break into a song with NO station
liners/id's/imaging.

Their format is country music.. usually modern country. They do slip in the
occassional classic country tune. On Saturday nights beginning at 6pm
central and going for 4 hours, they do "Saturday Night At The Oldies"....
and the music that is played largely follows the hosts tastes.. can be 50s
malt shop and 60s rock n roll one Saturday then the next Saturday, it could
be 70's pop and 80s rock n roll.

KVSH's sign off message usually begins rolling about 958pm central, and
it's a short voice announcement followed by The National Anthem.

KVSH does have a webstream at www.kvsh.com I don't know how far behind the
air signal it is, but it's not TOO FAR behind. For warning, the stream will
NOT work on mobile devices (Phones, Ipads, etc) unless you have the UStream
app installed on your device.

KVSH is on the air 6am to 10pm central 7 days a week and if you call them
whenever they are on the air, you will get a live body answering. They have
a love operator in the studio whenever they are on the air... no automation
there.

I hope this information is useful to someone out there trying to log KVSH.
