Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] [Amdx] 720 mysteries

Thanks, Steve, your good ears are greatly appreciated. I suspected them. I think what didn't work for me here was not recognizing Nicaragua. A careful listen now at my end suggests a soft g sound, almost like an h. It's a new catch. I've had the country before, but it's been a good many years. Amazing that this was with WGN on, a couple days after that Chicago outage. It's an auroral event I'll remember. Going through more unID files I've managed to snag a few I didn't hear on initial run throughs - 1570 in Auburndale FL, 1370 in Washington GA on at 9 pm when it's just a 1KW daytimer. All I got on that one was a local ad that checked to washington GA. And it didn't last long and was mostly buried by a country station from NC (in itself DX). Jim Renfrew in Rockester NY and I also heard the same Portuguese preacher on 990. I tried some webstreams but one was plagued by a virus or malware (warning) and the other had no preaching. My next tack is to go through my Newfoundland 9!
90 audio files and logs to see if I had anything of the sort while there. Cx were quite good to Brazil duirng the DXpedition there this past November I see the K indices are back up. I don't see getting up to my Burnt River ON DX site tonight, though. Can't DX them all. And between this season's unIDs here and in Nfld I've hundreds of audio files yet to go through. So guess I'm still DXing in the past tense... ;-) Saul To: am@xxxxxxxxxxx; amdx@xxxxxxxxxx; amfmtvdx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; irca@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Saul, I hear a man at 2:28 saying "Radio Catolica de Nicaragua."

I'm going through my recordings from the chicago outages, followed by the
intense auroral outburst the following night, and have a few recordings of 720 I
can't quite pin down. They're at

www.box.com/shared/07fc9260a96a3e944d6e . They play best for me when I download
them, as opposed to playing them on the site itself. I don't know why. The
clips are labelled with descriptors, and itemized below: One clip of 720 has
talk about Catholicism, and I'm wondering if anyone recognizes this. This was
with WGN on the air, during the aurora of Saturday evening. My best guess is
Nicaragua, but my Spanish is non-existent, and I'm not picking anything beyond
what seems to me to be talk about Catholicism. Another clip is probably Spanish,
but sounds rather vaguely, ever so slightly, like Portuguese. There are two
Brazil powerhouses on 720, and other stations from Brazil. Regardless, I'm sunk
here unless there's something IDable. The other two recordings - one has what
seems to be the end of a newscast - thus the word 'informativa' - followed by
beginning of some music. The other - the one I've labelled 720 or 780 - has some
talk. I screwed up on this latter one. My notes s
ay 780. I labelled the recording as 720. I think my notes are right, but I'm
lumping this one in with my 720 unIDs for now. Any thoughts are appreciated,
with thanks. Saul ChernosBurnt River ON
