Re: [IRCA] Ultralight Radio Co-Conspirators Heading to Grayland

Hi Walt,

John, Guy and I had a discussion at Bennett's restaurant in Grayland this
afternoon (over some delicious food) concerning how you and Nick would need
to come down to and sample the cuisine-- which by consensus was much better
than the mediocre fare of your previous trips.

Guy even drove all the way from Puyallup just to join us for lunch (2.5
hours each way), which may have been somewhat related to the quality of the
restaurant...

The DX this morning on the beach was very good, with both Aussie and Kiwi
stations booming in all over the band. John had his Wellbrook array set up
outside Room 9, and I was out in the drizzly weather at the Grayland Beach
Road picnic table with a new experimental 8' passive loop. Both of us heard
more DU's than we have heard for 9 months-- primarily because this is our
first trip to Grayland in about 9 months!

John usually has his best Grayland DXing sessions of the year right after I
come back home, so I'm getting psychologically prepared. By the way, John
and Guy still haven't gotten over the episode in the QCI DXpedition, when
you heard the best DX of the entire trip right after they left. And I
thought this only happened to me :>)

Hi, Gary. Yes, it's good to hear that the once rustic Grayland region
with very few amnenities now has progressed to the 21st century. Remember the
years without cell service and no eateries? We had to go into town to
find either. I still remember the trouble we went to to get dial-up internet
access, so that we could post loggings daily during one of the big
DXpeditions from years past (I think it was Guy Atkins who spent little time
DXing, and more time with the computer/modem). It's too bad that one of the
QDFA couldn't be employed to compare with the Wellbrook array and
Beverage(s)........Walt
