I'd go for the BOGs towards the DX also, Derek.   You probably have a reasonable amount of overseas signal strength already, and what will probably be more important will be cutting down on the domestic splatter, as you already recognize.  Those thousand footers will give you lots of domestic signal, probably more than you will gain on the DX by having the extra length of wire.
