Not hardly with a standard indoor antenna from a typical consumer class router.

If the signal really is far away, there will be some sort of outdoor antenna that should be visible as you scout the area. Unless the owner is explicitly allowing a free open access and has added an outdoor antenna, and has the WiFi unit a short cable run from the antenna, this is likely a home unit and should be fairly close to you.

What is it 802.11 B or G, G has even less usable range than B.
