Re: [IRCA] TP's for 08-07-08

Fellas,

No TP DXing for me yesterday morning or this... Yesterday, it was "a quick run ashore" for some tile for the last part of our house (my shower). That meant being at the ferry landing 7 miles away well before dawn.... its tourist season. Turned out to be the ferry ride from hell... ferry broke down half way to port (30 minutes out) and we floated at sea for quite a while. Eventually a massive sea-going tug arrived, along with one Coast Guard helicopter and two Coast Guard Harbor Patrol vessels (armed) and we eventually made it ashore, only three hours late. It was actually fun! Of course, many of the the tourists were going crazy, on cell phones trying to change airline reservations out of Seattle, etc... but, hey.

So then, a quick run 50 miles south toward Seattle, load the tile, a fast trip back and I just made it into the line for the 2:30PM ferry. It was running 45 minutes late, of course.... the place was chaos having one large ferry (out of 5 in the whole system) still out of service, so 45 minutes late wasn't bad. As we were finally loading, with me in the very back of the line, we got about 2/3 loaded and then everything stopped! There was all sorts of to-ing and fro-ing by staff and finally they announced that the big box semi-trailer truck - that everyone could see, stopped just starting to enter the ferry - had gouged his diesel fuel tank on an obstruction and dumped the entire load on the dock and ferry. Sooooooo, it took 2 more hours to clean up the ferry and dock, back every one in line behind the truck off the dock so that they could haul the truck backwards out of the way. The 2:30 ferry left at 5:30PM and rather than arriving home at 1:30PM after my "fast run ashore" I made it just after 7:00 PM. Exhausted, having started the trip at 4:45AM.

On the other hand, it was a beautiful sunny day, never getting above 75 degrees; the surroundings were beautiful; I made some new friends and got re-acquainted with some old ones; Like all locals, I always carry an entertaining book when traveling on a ferry, as well.... So, it was not at all a bad day, BUT now you know why I didn't DX TPs yesterday morning and overslept this morning. Today, will likely go more nearly as planned!
