[IRCA] Trip prep..

I'm spending a bit of time on an island off the coast of Maine next week. I
decided to bring the Palstar R30CC out of the truck, a DX Engineering RPA-1
preamp, and one of the untuned ferrite loop antennas. Power will be from a
Radio Shack 12v 7ah sealed lead-acid battery, #23-275. I'm also bringing a
3a Astron power supply to recharge it. It all fits nicely in a gym bag I
bought at a closeout place.

Gathered all the parts and did some testing last night, and the radio/preamp
combo will run at least a couple of hours, probably much longer. While
inside the computer room is hardly good DX territory, it did OK. Fairly
good conditions even up to about 8:30am local time.

Today the wife and I are going to south coastal RI. Her idea.. She brings a
book, I bring the radio. Life is good.

The camera tripod mount for the ferrite rod has worked very well. I may buy
a better one to replace the cheap one I'm now using.

I had thought about bringing a length of wire to the island next week, but
there is darned little land available to run it out. And nothing in a
straight line. We've been there a couple times before, so I know that. I
really am looking forward to sunset on the east side of the island, well
away from any electricity.

Speaking of trips, I got a copy of the September issue of Monitoring Times
yesterday at a bookstore. Read John Bryant's Easter Island trip article.
All I have to say is..

(stands up)
(applauds loudly)

Nice work!
