If Tom's correct, HD output is only about 3% of a station's regular
analog transmitter power... if Barry's right, then it's closer to 6%.
Either way, it's not surprising that it takes so much RF to trigger the
HD digital audio... and why none of us has been able to pull out digital
audio from skywave.  I know I have yet to hear it on any skywave signal,
though the call letters & other text info often comes through okay.
KFAB-1110 is ALMOST strong enough here at SSS before their pattern
change for the audio to switch over, but not quite... at least, not yet.
(As I've mentioned before, I have one of my station's Boston Acoustics
HD radios at home.)

You're about 3 dB down there, Tom - according to the iBiquity specs, a
50 kW 
station would have an average digital power of about 2940 Watts.  See
