[IRCA] Re: IBOC

I forgot to mention that all but WQAM are owned by WWNN License, LLC.  This may explain why these three stations all have signed up for IBOC; a package deal.  Still don't know why WSBR is running it though.

Bob,

I have to admit I never have listened to WSBR!  As Money Talk radio, it never attracted my attention except as a local station.  Your question about them promoting IBOC has raised my interest though.  I've started listening on occasion, for any mention of their IBOC/HD operations.  I haven't noticed anything in the paper, but I don't take the local rag, too pathetic.

I checked the four S. FLs reported to have IBOC:
560 WQAM Miami - IBOC on
740 WSBR Boca Raton - IBOC on
980 WHSR Pompano Beach - IBOC off
1470 WWNN Pompano Beach - IBOC off

One thing I've been wondering.  With WSBR being a talk outlet, it doesn't seem useful for them to broadcast in stereo.  Is IBOC just for stereo or enhanced audio, or can the digital subchannels be used for data?  And if for data, what sort of things are being sent?

Does WSBR promote using HD radio on the air at all?
I presume HD is the consumer-friendly term they
would use, just as HD-TV is in use? I'd think that
IBOC is a term only radio people would know. Any
stories in the local newspapers? There seems to
be a high concentration of stations using it in your area.
