[IRCA] New Catch

While doing a daytime bandscan saturday from noon-2pm I found several
items of interest.

(1) I found KFRC-610 San Francisco carrying the A's warmup followed by
the baseball game. I had forgotten that KFRC was the new outlet for the
A's. The fact that baseball games and other remote broadcasts seldom
are over modulated gave me the opportunity to FINALLY AT LAST get a
readable signal from KIGS in Hanford on 620. At 2pm PDT a nice SID in
english. I used to hear this station easily daytime from Sacramento
(different calls then, think it was KNGS) but down here in the city
KFRC's heavily over modulated classic rock turned me off (at least for
dxing).

(2) 540 Carmel Valley as per Bob Pietsch's note to me earlier this week
is now formatted in Spanish. Dunno if they have switched to KMEO as yet
as I noted them between TOH's. Someday, when ambition is realized, I
hope to listen at top of the hour.

(3)1240 KSQR Sacramento noted with much better signal than its had for
the past 29 years (at least as heard at my S.F. locations). Had weekend
rock & r&b show. Almost wiped out KNRY Monterey completely.

Other than that all I can say is that the noise level is horrendous at
my location. Altho I could hear MOST of the Monterey county stations I
couldn't get 1460 KION either at home on the Drake or on the car radio
on The Great Highway.
I couldn't hear KCVR-1570 Lodi on either for that matter also. Rather
odd. One of these days I'll wander up to Lands End with a decent radio
& try my luck where the noise level may be greatly reduced.
