Warm greetings !
I went to an "adivinadora" (not an astrologist, but a "voyante" or "ghicitoare") and she gave me hope about the Aventure FM airchecks and even about my efforts for trying to make it cameback.
That being said, I'm still into DXing, but less than before... In spite of an astonishing Syria-783 reception, my "other" radio related hobby, the quest for airchecks is coming back stronger than ever !... I think I have been bitted by the airchecks bug as much as by the DX one ! Just some feeds for thoughts !
Into the logs:
Trans-Atlantic DX
189 ICELAND Rikisútvarpid, Gufuskalar NOV 12 0418 - A pop-rock song with woman vocals noted in passing, while listening with a knowledge of mine in Hochelaga Maisonneuve. (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
207 MOROCCO RTM, Azilal NOV 12 0338 - Man announcer in Arabic with a very heavy voice, almost as if he was saying dirty words or choice words - very fanatic. Poor-fair over what appeared to be Germany and, of course, a non-directionnal beacon... (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
216 FRANCE RMC Première, Romoules NOV 12 0419 - an item in their lengthy morning newscast: the Vatican now has his own YouTube channel (well, David Icke has one too - Bogdan). Good, over / under what is probably the CLB beacon. (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
252 IRELAND RTE Radio One, Clarkestown NOV 12 0200 - AOR music show that went on and on with English blues-rock vocals without stopping at the Top-of-the-hour. Slight QRM from what appeared to be Algeria, aside from the regular beacons. (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
612 MOROCCO RTM, Sebaa-Aioun NOV 10 2340 - playing plaintive religious Arabic vocals that sounded Egyptian rather than Moroccan. Good in heavy CHNC-610 splatter even when detuned to 613. Sharply distorted on 614 and killed by CHNC New Carlisle right on 612 ! I thought 610 is to be turned off, right ? If CHNC-610 is going dark, then this station would become the easiest TA. New ! New country on mediumwave ! (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
621 CANARY ISLANDS Radio Nacional de España, Santa Cruz de Tenerife NOV 10 2335 - Spanish discussion in heavy 620 QRM. Caught one "Radio Nacional" mention ! Regular on 623 ! (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
783 SYRIA ORT Wahad, Tartus NOV 10 0250 - playing traditionnal Syrian music (different from Mauritania-4845 and different from Lebanese music as well). Fairly good and splittable from WBBM Chicago 780 using both the Sanyo MCD-S830 and the Sangean ACS 818CST along with the PK AM loop. Later, after 0300 GMT (2200 EST) when Arabic talk was heard, they were down in the mud and fading out with transmitter site sunrise ! THE catche of the week ! Probably my best mediumwave DX ever ! (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
1215 ENGLAND Absolute Radio, Moonside Edge NOV 9 2154 - Rock music, then woman in British accented English. Very good with minimal splatter, but quickly faded away a few minutes later. (Chiochiu-HochelagaMaisonneuve-QC)
Bogdan speaks: Also heard weakly Morocco-171, UK-198 and Luxy-234, but didn't took then any specific notes. That being said, conditions on mediumwave have been EXTRA-GOOD ! Too bad they are fewer and fewer Euros and Afros on mediumwave. I miss Senegal-765 and Norway-1314, because I never heard them, having activated only in 2000. As far as the LAs, the same old Radio Coro on 780 and while I found it interesting like always, it was difficult to listen, because the same bothersome buzz has appeared on a random basis at the Hochelaga Maisonneuve QTH (1 minute there, then gone for two minutes, then it came back for 1 minute) and this is somewhat nullable on the E/W bearing making TAs easier to listen to than LAs, on both long and mediumwave. Anyone has news regarding Medi Un and their ridiculously low modulation ? They were heard, of course, but with a lower than ever signal level, but I think it's the low modulation rather than a real loss in the signal strength, because my Sangean ACS 818-CST reading meter is always showing S4 or even S5 while tuned to 171 kHz LW on Sunday evening EST (Monday morning UTC or GMT if you like that way) !
Bogdan speaks again: As I write this Radio Saint Helena will be doing a test broadcast on 11092.5 kHz in USB, upper side band. Some Venezuelan DXers are doing a DXpedition for haunting this low-powered shortwave DX catche that is more intriguing than the major international broadcasters with their endless propaganda.
Bogdan speaks once again: If anyone has Aventure FM airchecks, feel free to share them with me !
That being said, may the good DX be with you !
Bogdan Chiochiu
Btw.: Is anyone interested in hearing how Aventure FM sounded like back in 1988 ?
This report is brought to you by Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu, DXing from Hochelaga Maisonneuve using his Sanyo MCD-S830 / PK AM loop, Sangean ACS 818 / PK AM loop or PK LW loop combos !
