[HCDX] 23 October 2009 Micro-DXpedition

23 OCTOBER 2009:   I wanted to get out for a morning micro-DXpedition and see how the Perseus mobile setup worked.  Used the Perseus with Guys Atkins Wellbrook preamp run off the 12v gel cell.   It was a pleasant morning for a micro-DXpedition.  Warm and dry.  A very loud Great Horned Owl nearby was telling me when I was veering off while laying out the BOG.  Propagation conditions weren't anything special, but it was a tad disturbed due to a recurrent coronal hole.  First time the Solar Flux has been above 70 in a few months.

Solar Indices:  Solar Flux = 72  A Index = 17  K Index = 4

BRAZIL   4825.245    R. Educacao Rural  Found on this exact freq at 1017.  (23 Oct)

 

INDONESIA   9525.898   VO Indonesia  Found here exactly at 1048 w/nice Gamelan mx pgm hosted by W anncr.  Oddly weak and had to turn the AGC off .  (23 Oct)

 

PNGs were very gradually getting better after 1000, but then dropped off 1100, and quickly coming back after 1140.

 

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3385   R. East New Britain  1146 End of "The Girl is Mine" by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, then live M in PD w/song anmnt, ment of pgm, and tlk, then "Down Under" by Men at Work.  1151 ad by M and W, then slick cola ad, and live M w/TC, etc.  Reggae song over ToH.  M w/song anmnt and TC, ment of Friday night.  Drum signature at 1203, then W w/ID and provincial nx.  Fairly good.  (23 Oct)

 

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3345   R. Northern  1146-1149 long tlk by M, 1149 W anncr w/outro then what sounded like a long info/cmntry in apparent lcl dialect to 1155.  Song by what Kenny G.  1156 live studio M anncr and Island mx.  1159 canned EG anmnt by M w/ment of Northern Province, and ending w/phone #.  1200 cultural pgm promo, then another anmnt by M and W ending w/ment of "National Department of ??", and into Pop song followed by a Blues song.  Couple canned anmnts at 1206 (one was the same as that w/M and W at 1200 earlier), then live M anncr.  Island song, and different M anncr.  One of the best PNGs this morning.  (23 Oct)

 

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3334.972   R East Sepik  1146-1157 studio W anncr giving messages and PSAs.  Ments of Wewak.  Near 100% copy!!  Couple ads at a lower lvl.  1200 W returned w/TC and pgm rundown.  Usual NBC native mx signature, then NBC EG nx to 1205 nice canned ID anmnt by M over mx including freqs and QTH, then W again w/ment of weekend, Friday night, welcome, number 1, "station dedication", etc.  Then back to mx pgm w/Island song.  Good and oddly one of the best PNGs on the band.  (23 Oct.)

 

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3290   R Western  1157-1158 what seemed like a canned phone call dialog w/W caller, then mx bridge, and live studio M anncr w/ment of "announcements", pgm promo in EG by M w/ment of NBC, M w/TC, then usual NBC native mx signature, and nx to 1205 w/remaining pgm rundown.  Heavy QRM from 2 guys in a net on 3289 making it impossible.  (23 Oct.)

 

3325   R. Bougainville  1202 anmnt by W w/ment of Bougainville, choral mx bridge, then live M anncr.  Poor w/heavy QSB.  Others on included 3260, 3275, 3325, and 3365.  (23 Oct.)
