[HCDX] two Pan-American logs

Warm greetings to all of you !

Here in Pierrefonds, I get a huge buzz that stops promptly around 2330 Eastern Delayed Time - EDT (0330 GMT / UTC). By the way, as far as the time goes, we will be switching to EST (Eastern Standard Time) on Sunday, the first of November.

After the buzz ended, I heard mostly so-so condx and logged at least two foreign signals, while noting in passing a few others... With condx on the active side of the things, I expect to hear something more surprising as soon as tomorrow !

Into the logs now:

Pan-American DX

530 CUBA CMBD, Radio Enciclopedía, La Habana OCT 25 0332 - playing a Muzak version of Serge Gainsbourg / Jane Birkin's chanson classic "Je t'aime, moi non plus"... It seems odd to hear this stuff on Cuban radio. As far as the Muzak format of Radio Enciclopedia goes, they don't stick around with instrumental versions of pop songs, they even play Muzak version of Cuban TROPICAL music which is good, since with all this IBOC hash there are fewer and fewer frequencies around with Latin tropical music and more and more jammed by short-skip domestic pests from the New England and mid-west area... Fair in null of CIAO (which was weaker anyway) ! SINPO 25533 (Chiochiu-PIERREFONDS-QC)

780 VENEZUELA YVNM, Radio Coro, Coro, Falcón OCT 25 0340 - "La Bailante Siete Ochenta" very good peaks, deep fadings and splatter from both sides (local-like WABC-770 and true local CJAD-800). SINPO 42232. (Chiochiu-PIERREFONDS-QC)

Additionnal comments:

We will be moving from Montreal-Est during the next few weeks or so... In the meantime, I gave you a wrong number, as its 514-322-4555. You can reply to this message, but it will be read either today (providing you have to reply quickly) or Friday night if the buzz is still around... Otherwise, I will be DXing !

That being said, I'm a bit buzzy today, but as soon as I get more time, I will be trying to post more airchecks querries !

I tried last night, while the buzz was going on strong, to chat with the Venezuelan DXers on SKYPE, but it was in vain. Well, I will try again today, as this also part of the why I will be buzzy...

I will bring my Sanyo MCD-S830 at the Montréal-Est QTH with me instead of my Sangean ACS-818 CST as there is hope for auroral condx... My Sanyo MCD-S830 is way less prone to overload than my Sangean and, last but certainly not least, the sound and the quality of the tape recordings or airchecks is better. Using the Sangean ACS 818-CST I hear distorted sound unless the signal is really strong. However, I'm afraid to get it broke... It's a huge AM-FM Hi-Fi portable with astonishing AM broadcast DX capabilities ! What is your opinion ? Should I take the Sanyo with me instead of the Sangean ? Reply fast ! Thanks a lot !

May the good DX be with you !
Bogdan Chiochiu

This report is brought to you by Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu DXing this time only from Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), QC using his trusty Sanyo MCD-S830 along with the PK's mediumwave AM loop
