BBC to launch 'Aftershock' from 5 September globally

MUMBAI: BBC's global news service will launch Aftershock, a special season showcasing and examining global recession.

The series will be on air from 5 September on BBC World Service and comes on the heels of the largest bankruptcy filed in US corporate history by New York-based Lehman Brothers on 15 September, 2008.

The BBC World Service will kick off the series with the premiere of The Day that Lehman Died, a 60-minute radio drama, which marks the anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

BBC World News, the international 24/7 news and information channel, will start showing the Aftershock season from 7 September. The channel will start the series by showing How a Busted Bank Changed the World on 12 September (and BBC World Service's Business Daily on 15 September).

BBC World News begins its extensive news coverage with reports across the globe including Shanghai, Mumbai, New York and Japan.

BBC World News' India Business Report will air a special programme dedicated to business from Mumbai on 12 and 13 September, providing analysis on Indian conglomerates. The channel will also air live reports on 15 september.

BBC Hindi, the radio programming, will see how the financial crisis began and will examine issues on how recession shifted the global power away from western to Asian countries and how Indian banks survived the recession. A special edition of regular programme Parikrama will include if the state of global economy has started to recover.

BBC's Hindi online will look for answers to questions such as, how India survived and will the economy continue to boom, the impact that the recession has had on the Chinese economy, how badly have the export-oriented Indian industries suffered and a special analysis with case studies saying India's unsung rural economy had a major role in it, among several others.

The Aftershock website, bbc.com/aftershock, will feature interactive graphics, charting the impact of the financial crisis around the world. The website will offer audiences the opportunity to share their own personal experiences of the past year via a global interactive mood map.
